NEW REVIEW: Janice Jones - His Woman, His Wife, His Widow

His Woman, His Wife, His Widow (Urban Christian)Janice Jones -
His Woman, His Wife, His Widow -
Available Now! -
3 out of 5 books -

Lindsay ‘Nay-Nay’ Westbrook is a 16-year-old Christian that becomes enamored by the sexy Shaun Taylor. The two strike up a relationship that is innocent with promising undertones despite the numerous obstacles that are stacked against their union. Shaun has a few skeletons in his closet, beginning with the fact that he’s 19, too old for Nay-Nay, and has already fathered a child with a mother that still wants him for her very own. His current occupation challenges her religious beliefs as well as her relationship with her mother. Lindsay and BFF Shyanne have been close since second grade, and she remains true to her friend in spite of the odds. Lindsay’s love for Shaun overshadows all reasons and her upbringing, and in turn, causes her to alienate herself from anyone or anything that is anti-Shaun. Shaun’s status in the drug games escalates as well as his ego.

His Woman, His Wife, His Widow by Janice Jones is a tale of young love, heartbreak, betrayal, disappointment, premarital sex, family feuds, friendships, and the ups and downs life entails. Ms. Jones paints a picture of an immature young lady making adult decisions and then suffering the consequences...all for the sake of love. The storyline is consistent as well as vivid in all aspects. There are some pretty touching scenes that proved to be very visual. His Woman, His Wife, His Widow proved to be unique with a distinct message of second chances.

NEW REVIEW: T.R. Braxton - Dirty Hands

Dirty HandsT.R. Braxton -
Dirty Hands -
Available Now! -
3.5 out of 5 books -

It’s Saturday night, and Terrell Hawkins, his cousin and his best friend set out to have a good time. What they didn’t bargain for is a fatal accident and a potential missing person. They respond to the accident in the worse way possible. As they struggle to avoid the police, fear, guilt and paranoia grabs each one and doesn’t let go. Suspicions arise, and Terrell and the others learn that dirty hands can lead to desperate accusations. In the end, when Terrell is left with his cousin, he realizes that what he thought he knew about his cousin is all wrong.

T.R. Braxton did a good job pacing the story in Dirty Hands. The novel is built with short chapters layered with action. The action continues to push the story and has the reader quickly turning page after page. The font leaves much to be desired. I believe its Times New Roman size 8, much too small for this reader’s eyes. All in all, Dirty Hands is a good read for readers looking for a fast paced diversion.

NEW REVIEW: Candice Poarch - Island of Deceit

Island of Deceit -
Available June 1, 2010 -
4 out of 5 books -

Barbara Turner is on a mission. She has followed a group of hustlers to Paradise Island. They stole money from her grandmother, and she is convinced they had something to do with her death. Barbara is determined to help the other elderly people that this group has swindled. However, there is one obstacle that stands in her way: Sheriff Harper Porterfield. Since Barbara has come to the island, Harper has been in hot pursuit of her. He is a mature divorcee that is ready to settle down. Barbara is very attracted to Harper, but she is afraid that he may not approve of her plan to get the money back. In this case, chemistry prevails and the two become an item. When a series of misfortunate events occur on the island and to Barbara, Harper realizes that Barbara is hiding something.

Island of Deceit is a good read by Candice Poarch. The plot is very mysterious and suspenseful. Poarch does a good job of introducing new characters and giving updates on the characters that were introduced in the previous Golden Bowl stories. There are some times when the plot lags due to the details that are given. However, Poarch compensates for this by giving such an intriguing ending.

NEW REVIEW: Michele Grant - Heard It All Before

Heard It All BeforeMichele Grant -
Heard It All Before -
Available Now! -
3 out of 5 books -

Jewellen Capwell and Renee Nightingale are best friends that are total opposites, although both have iconic ideas of the ‘perfect man.’ Jewel tends to be more idealistic and bougie than Renee and can’t begin to comprehend that good and intelligent men can come from the wrong side of the track. Coerced into attending a South Side basketball game, she’s hypnotized by Roman Montgomery, a single father with baby mama drama but a promising career as an entrepreneur.

Renee finds herself caught up in Gregory Samson all the while trying to ensure that she’s the spider spinning the web. Gregory grew up with financial security and advantages and fits into Renee’s mold of a man that can provide designer labels, picture perfect career, financial security and is hopelessly in love with her in all of her temperamental stages.

Heard It All Before by Michele Grant entails relationships, misconceptions, prejudice, and awareness of life, love, and affairs true to the heart! The story was well written, but with no heart-stopping scenes...just a nice uneventful ride. One thing in particular that I did enjoy was the narration of the storyline from both male and female points of view. All plots were completed and the story had a conclusive ending.

Miki, Valencia, Teela, and Brandi are four women that have one thing in common: sex addiction. They are all members of Sexaholics Anonymous and are trying to become better people before they self-destruct. But is it already too late? Miki can’t get enough...having multiple trysts with different men. Miki might have more than she bargained when one of her men puts her in a dangerous situation. Valencia is engaged to be married, but she still likes to indulge in sexual relations with women. Will she be able to stop this behavior for her pending nuptials? Teela loves being a voyeur and so does her boyfriend. Teela loves to pick out women and share them with her man. Things turn for the worse when Teela suspects that her boyfriend is seeing a woman without her. Brandi’s freaky ways come out at night when she has various one night stands. Her secret life threatens to spill over into her professional life, which could prove to be costly.

Sexaholics is a sexy thrill ride by Pynk. Pynk once again brought a spicy novel full of steamy sex, but this story is so much more than that. Sexaholics delves into how destructive sex addiction is. All of these women made the first move as far as acknowledging that they have a problem, but they still have a long way to go. With this story, Pynk shows that sex addiction is just as damaging as alcohol and drugs. The author also did an excellent job with providing very realistic conclusions for each of these women’s stories. Sexaholics is sexy and thought-provoking.

They decide to go to an island resort along with some other students from their college. Everything seems to be going fine until Ashley disappears after a night of drinking at a bar. Someone on the island does not want some dark secrets revealed and will do anything to protect them.

Spring Break is an entertaining thriller by Kayla Perrin. Perrin brought us a good story about when an innocent vacation goes terribly wrong. At first glance, you think that this book is based on an infamous disappearance of a real college student during spring break, but that’s not the case. This story will really hold your attention as more and more clues are revealed. Just when you think you have the whole book figured out; Perrin throws in some interesting twists that will keep you glued to the pages. Spring Break is a fast-paced page-turner with a good mystery thrown in.
