Boyfriend Season introduces three teenage girls from Atlanta and the challenges that they each face. Santana Jackson is in love with her hustling boyfriend, Pharoah, and her part time gig is boosting clothes to keep money in her pocket. Dynasty Young lives in Thomasville Heights with her bi-polar Aunt Maybelline and is terrorized daily by Rufus, her obnoxious all knowing neighbor. Patience Blackman is the daughter of the famous Bishop Blackman and she’s expected to be the perfect preacher’s child.
Ms. London creates a barrage of events depicting the choices these teens face and the consequences to their actions and reactions. Will the gleam of the forbidden continue to sway them, or will a larger sense intervene before it’s too late? Dynasty’s life of hard knocks seem to worsen. Will she be able to escape the despair that awaits her amid the taunts and shame? Will the life of truth and dare encompass Santana. or will she find safety elsewhere? Tired of being restrained by her strict and religious parents, will the lure of the forbidden bring more harm than good for lil Ms. Patience? Right or wrong, friend or foe, good or bad, true or false…these questions plagues these three teenagers as they journey through this Boyfriend Season.
Boyfriend Season by Kelli London was just a decent read for me. It had a decent flow, a decent plot, and decent characters, but nothing extra to brag about.
