NEW REVIEW: Vanessa Davis Griggs - Forever Soul Ties

Vanessa Davis Griggs
Forever Soul Ties

4 out of 5 books

Evelyn ‘Butterfly’ Payne has raised her children, established her dream business, The Painted Lady Flower Shop, and accepts the fact that her husband doesn’t want to spend quality time with her. She works at her shop and for Christ and has found a mundane contentment. Entering from the left wing is Ethan ‘Spears’ Roberts and the ‘what ifs’ take residence in her mind and suddenly her peace is disturbed with temptation. Ethan is a ‘Man of God’, a husband and a father as well, but he and Evelyn have unfinished business.

Forever Soul Ties delves into the lives of two Christians and their tempestuous connection that threaten everything that they have worked for. Will the Word of God transcend the risks that threaten to topple their lives and their testimonies’ as his chosen ones? When childhood sweethearts continually remember the pet names and the special times and question their choices as they realize that they are settling and are not actually satisfied, will they finally choose each other? Are they brave enough to test the waters all for the sake of happiness with their soul mates, or will they remain steadfast in their life of settling for second best?

Forever Soul Ties is a flawless read with real life lessons, scenarios, and reactions and will challenge those that have that one ‘what if’ in their life. Love, loyalty, dedication, spirituality, family, honesty and courage challenge deceit, unhappiness, selfishness and adultery in this Christian read. I loved the scriptures that set each chapters pace and also the fact that it wasn’t too ‘preachy’ of a read.

NEW REVIEW: Naomi Chase - Deception

Naomi Chase
Deception -
Available Now!
4.5 out of 5 books

Tamia Luke has been saved by her prince in shining armor, the renowned Brandon Chambers, son of the prominent Lieutenant Governor Bernard Chambers, and the man she loves but betrayed in the worst way. Tasting freedom is bittersweet, especially when she has to watch her nemesis claim the victory with her lover, her best friend, and her very own soul mate. Brandon plans a future with Cynthia, one befitting his family’s social status and expectations, but his heart palpitates to a different beat for Tamia. Fiona Powell is Tamia’s sister, and she’s guilty of envying her sister, riding her sister’s coattails, and sacrificing her sister at the ultimate expense…guilty on all accounts and some unnamed. Sisters by blood, sisters by deception, and sisters in every sense of the word but disconnected by secrets that these two sisters bear the burden for the sake of being sisters.

Deception is the sequel to Exposed, a book that I haven’t read but don’t really feel slighted. Ms. Chase did a great job of penning this book as a stand alone with its captivating characters, dynamic dialogue, electric scenarios, and tempestuous cliffhanging ending. Murder, suspense, lies, raw sexuality, judgmental behavior, cunning manipulation, unchained desire, hurt, and life changing choices all season this thrilling novel, ensuring a tasty and addictive memorable read! I’m really anticipating book #3 to see how Ms. Chase masterminds this journey.

Toni Sheilds is a no nonsense reporter that will stop at nothing to get her story, even if that means ending up in a jail cell. While chancing a story, Toni finds herself in some hot water at work and needs to find a way to redeem herself. Adam Bayne, director of a boys' home, tries to keep his boys out of trouble and off the streets. When Adam meets Toni, sparks do not fly immediately. Actually, when they first meet, they cannot stand one another. When Adam finds out that Toni is a reporter, he tries his hardest to keep the boys away from her. When he sees a different side of Toni's personality, he has a change of heart. Is he making a big mistake?

One Way Or Another by Rhonda Bowen is a novel about redemption and finding faith in God. While reading this book, you find that the characters are familiar, kind of like someone you may know, which makes this book a great read because you can relate to them in some way. The author does has a way to relate faith into her book without it becoming too spiritual. The book dragged a little in the beginning, but picked up after the first chapter. One Way Or Another is a good read if you enjoy Christian fiction.

NEW REVIEW: De'nesha Diamond - Street Divas

De'Nesha Diamond
Street Divas
Available Now!
3.5 out of 5 books

Welcome to Memphis...the dirty South...where one wrong move can leave you six feet under. With names like Lucifer, Python, Fat Ace, and Smokestack, I knew Street Divas would be a wild ride. Loyalty and Love is a deadly mix when and rival games are involved. When you have the Lady Queen G’s, Black Gangster Disciples, Flowers, Vice-Lords, Cripettes and Crips, things can turn deadly when Love crosses the path and overrules the laws of the gang life.

This was not the first book I read of De’Nesha Diamond, so I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. If you want gritty, down and dirty, and raw, Street Divas is the book for you. This book went much deeper than the gang life though. It started from the very beginning and showed how childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect shaped these individuals to who they later became. At the end of all the madness, Street Divas showed that they were family. But at the same time, family can stab you in the back and even cause deadly repercussions to the ones they love.

NEW REVIEW: Meesha Mink - Real Wifeys: Get Money

Meesha Mink
Real Wifeys: Get Money

4 out of 5 books

Harriet Jordan, a.k.a. Luscious, has finally stepped out of the shadow of her mentor, Goldie, and has established her own credentials. Playing wifey to Make$, one of the hottest rappers in the game, Luscious has to deal with the insecurities that go hand in hand with her status…his absence, groupies, and his ghetto family. She feels that she can handle all of this until she witnesses the ultimate betrayal…her shero and her man. A woman scorned is birthed and a BeYATCH emerges and ensues a maniacal vengeful vendetta.

Real Wifeys: Get Money continues the trilogy but it’s from Luscious’ viewpoint. Although Get Money has a different outlook, more than half of the storyline is a repeat of On The Grind and the monopolization of this is its downfall. New minor characters are introduced and prove to be interesting but aren’t developed enough to add the potential excitement needed. Real Wifeys: Get Money has an authentic depiction into the lives of the celebrity lifestyle, It made me think of Love and Hip Hop a couple of times. I commend Ms. Mink on a realistic conclusion. Love, hope, disillusionment, betrayal, perseverance, manipulation, danger, and boldness all abound within the pages of Meesha’s Mink second installment of the Real Wifeys series and their quest to GET MONEY.

NEW REVIEW: Anthony Barrow & Tracey 'Big Tray Deee' Davis - Streetz Gon' Cry

Anthony Barrow & Tracey 'Big Tray Deee' Davis
Streetz Gon' Cry
Available Now!
5 out of 5 books

Streetz Gon’ Cry introduces a crew of young men deemed Vernon Boys. Their mindsets are of warring over territory and drug sales with their rival gang, the King Crips. Boo is the hot-head of the crew who begins to voice his disapproval of actions sanctioned by the Big Homie, S-Mack, as they are being disrespected by their enemies. Carter, a.k.a. Dollaz, is home from the penitentiary and an air of apprehension surfaces in the crew’s realms as the tensions continue to flare with division and deceit. The pledge that once stood for allegiance is questioned, beginning at the head as the body peeps an unknown force infiltrating their kingdom.

Upon beginning Streetz Gon' Cry, I thought it would be filled with the typical wildin’ out, gang banger mentality. But upon delving deeper into the read, I was pleasantly surprised. Character development was excellent; I loved the intelligence depicted with the characters as well as the emotional depictions, which proved to be even more fascinating. The authors need to put just a bit more effort in the editing. Some scenes weren’t separated, causing re-reads to decipher who was actually speaking. Fortunately, Carter was a captivating character that stole the storyline with just his mere appearance. I highly recommend Streetz Gon' Cry.

NEW REVIEW - K. L. Brady - Got A Right To Be Wrong

K. L. Brady
Got A Right To Be Wrong
Available Now!
5 out of 5 books

Charisse has agreed to marry Kevin. What was she thinking? The wedding is only a week away and everything is about to "hit the fan." Kevin will find out he has a child from a one night stand, Charisse will come face to face with a father she thinks abandoned her, she will find out that her mother has been keeping a secret, and her "friend" is still harboring feelings for her that he feels the need to share while all of this going on. And if that isn't enough, Kevin's ex-partner is in love with him and is trying to come between Kevin and Charisse. With all this on the table, Charisse and Kevin have a lot to sort out in order to make it the altar in a week.

Got a Right to be Wrong is another phenomenal read by Brady. The character development is excellent. There are several secondary characters that are critical to the plot of the story, and Brady does a wonderful job developing them to strengthen the plot. Got a Right to be Wrong is also a page turner. There are no lagging moments from beginning to end. I would highly recommend this book!
